Decor Alert - Reimagined Movie Posters

As many of you know, I'm a big movie nut. One of my favorite pastimes has been the art of movie posters. I used have several framed in my bedroom in fact. A few months ago, I did a post dedicated to posters chic enough for adults to have in their homes.

Today, I'd like to share with you some incredible "alternative" movie posters that are out on the internet these days. Artists have taken their favorite movies and put their own amazing spins on them. Enjoy and happy shopping my fellow film/art aficionados!

All about Etsy

I've got four letters for you for online shopping, ETSY. No, not eBay... Etsy - a fantastic website that's one-stop shopping for anything and everything homemade. All those crafts you love to discover at a flea market? They're available online on Etsy and at a reasonable price.

Moreover, you can comission all kinds of custom art and items. A special birthday gift, a personalized piece of jewelry, even a throng of customized party favors for a wedding that are truly unique! (They have a whole section just devoted to handmade wedding crafts).

I discovered Etsy about a year ago and in that time, I've purchased from several different artists. Below, I've put together a few of my favorites for finding art prints. I encourage you to explore their stores and to go forage around Etsy on your own sometime. If you're a creative shopper like me, you won't be disappointed!

Spotlight on
ELLOH

I've already shared with your her gorgeous Audrey Hepburn prints in a previous post. I also own the two prints below. Ellen Lohse has put together a fantastic site with whimsical prints dedicated to quirky television shows and films. She's got a whole series with characters from "The Office" (both British and American versions) and the stars of "Lost." Poke around, you may discover she's already honored your favorite movie!

Thank you for being a friend (Golden Girls), $35.00 (plus shipping)

The Bluth Bunch (Arrested Development), Print being retired on 12/15/09, $35.00 (plus shipping)

Spotlight on
DAZEYCHIC
dazeychic.etsy.com

Dazeychic is a Minnesota-based artist with a ton of beautiful, modern prints with heartfelt quotes. I got the Bob Dylan quote print below to remind me of the importance of being true to myself at all times. I've also included another print I'm a big fan of.

"Dylan," 8x10", $20.00 (plus shipping)

"Break the Routine"(pink), 8x10", $18.00 (plus shipping)

Spotlight on
CAKESPY/JESSIE OLESON

I discovered Cakespy, the fun cupcake-themed artwork of Jessie Oleson, on a favorite cupcake blog of mine- Cupcakes take the cake. Perfect for your kitchen, especially if you're a baker - check out Cakespy.

"Cuppie with Diet Coke," 3x4", $25.00 (plus shipping)

"Cuppie and Zombies," 5x7" Original Watercolor, $45.00 (plus shipping)

Stay tuned for another Spotlight on Etsy in a different category - jewelry, photography, clothing, who knows! I've got lots of favorites I'd love to share here. Til then, go find some of your own.

Once you open a free account, you can explore and collect your own favorites on your profile! Favorite sellers or specific items. Most importantly, have fun!

Hepburn for the Home

A udrey Hepburn. Actress, Fashionista, Activist, and Icon. She exuded class and elegance like no other figure I could think of. She’s left us a great legacy of classic fashion and beautiful movies like Charade and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Because she’s a personal favorite of mine and her style is one I like to emulate, I thought it’d be fun to take a look at all the home décor that features Audrey. Some of it is charming, some is mass-produced – all of it is pretty sure to add a touch of class if you’re looking to add some to your home or apartment.

Since you’ve all are probably uber familiar (read: uber tired) of that black and white of her eating “breakfast” at Tiffany’s – I’ve taken the time to round up some of the more unique Audrey art available.

Ikea is in on the awesome – check out PJÄTTERYD for $79.99, a 35.5” by 35.5” canvas for your home.

Elloh, aka Ellen Lohse, is an artist on Etsy whose prints are inspired by wonderful movies and television shows. She’s done a whole series inspired by Breakfast at Tiffany’s that you can see below. Each print is extremely reasonable at $35.00 each and they are all signed by the artist. I personally own the kissing in the rain print and it’s fantastic. (Never heard of Etsy? I’ll feature it in an upcoming post.)

Poking around for this article, I also found another great Etsy artist, Miss Brigette, with a slightly different spin on Ms. Hepburn, just as thrifty for $25.00.

These next pieces of art are actually premium photographic prints by photographer Allan Grant – premium because of the price tag (starting at $99.99 for an 18x24”) and frankly, the quality of the photo itself. These are both from the 28th Academy Awards and feature Audrey and Grace Kelly interacting in the dressing rooms backstage during the ceremony. Simply gorgeous. (Source, Allposters.com - Click each photo for links to each poster for purchase)

If you’re not feeling using an Audrey likeness in your home, you could always work in a quote via wall decal. Check out this gorgeous use of a wonderful quote of hers here –

And so ends another fun and classy look round the net for excellent home decor.
