There's No Place like Home for Hanukkah

As I've poured through my dozens of home decorating blogs, I've noticed a huge influx of Christmas decorating posts crop up. How to make a wreath, how to decorate a tree, etc. and Christmas is weeks away!

Where are the tips for us home-decorating-loving Jews? Hanukkah is swiftly approaching on Dec. 11 and I need some inspiration. Here's some great fodder that I dug up around the web:

Better Homes & Gardens
This is a great way to spruce up Goodwill glasses!

Got a spare Hurricane vase lying around? With some glitter and some glam, instant Hanukkah Dreidel centerpiece.
Martha Stewart

Can't figure out where you stashed your menorah from last year? Martha's on it with this elegant and super easy project.

Use some spray paint to create a Hanukkah-friendly Holiday wreath
Real Simple

Finally, I'm not a huge fan of personalized frames but everyone is allowed a little bit of this kind of stuff around the holidays.
Available from Gifts.com

I'll post next week with some scrumptious Hanukkah recipes :)

This is just one Jew’s opinion, so don’t feel like you have to agree with me: I’m not trying to be inflammatory, and it’s not that I don’t appreciate your search for these decorations, but I (personally) find myself a bit offended by the inclusion of that wreath- I have such Christmas-y associations with wreaths, and to me it looks like just another example (in the world) of people trying to make Channukah the same kind of holiday as Christmas, where in fact, Channukah is a really minor holiday with it’s own cool traditions- like the tradition of eating things fried in oil, or the lighting of the menorah and oil lamps. Maybe some people would really like to have a Channukah wreath. That’s fine- there’s really nothing wrong with that, but I personally would really appreciate inclusion of a decoration that actually have something to do with Channukah beyond the easy answer of “Holiday wreath,” which in all honesty, even it was spray painted blue and white, would not look any different from any other Christmas wreath I’ve ever seen. That homemade menorah, for example, is really cool and different from a lot of the other decorations I've seen around.

Hey thanks for your opinion, and that's totally cool if you feel that way.

Really, I included the wreath mainly because it was truly difficult finding great, beautiful Hanukkah decorations and I thought it would make a nice seasonal look.

Hope we can both enjoy the fact that there are some decidedly Jewish decorations out there too which are showcased above :) Take care.

I love your ideas! As a Jew I struggle every single year to decorate for this holiday! I love decorating and think it adds to the whole festive spirit of Hanukkah for my children. I sure wish there would be more products out there to decorate with! We need a Jewish Martha Stewart!
BTW, I am working on a Dreidel wreath, its made out of pretty blue and silver twigs, with dreidels glued all around!
Happy Hanukkah!

Great - I'd love to show off your menorah on the blog if you want to send me pics when it's done :)
